Parents often ask us what a day at Blossom Station actually looks like. The honest answer is that it looks busy, joyful, and a little different every day. Our children learn through play, so we fill the week with activities that get them moving, creating, listening, and working together. One of the newest favorites is yoga, so let us start there.

Yoga on the mats

When the colorful mats come out, the room changes. Children find a spot, sit cross-legged, and follow their instructor through stretches, reaches, and slow breaths. Some poses are silly and some are calm, and both are the point. Yoga gives young children a simple, playful way to notice their bodies, practice balance, and settle themselves when they feel wiggly or big feelings come along.

It is also great practice for group skills that matter in preschool and Pre-K: listening to directions, taking turns, copying a movement, and staying in your own space. You can see the concentration on their faces, and the giggles when a pose gets tricky.

Moving, games, and teamwork

Movement is part of every week. Coaches from Be Ahead of the Game work with our Toddler and Preschool Divisions on gross-motor skills, coordination, and teamwork through games and activities. Running, hopping, tossing, and catching build strong bodies, and learning to play a game together builds patience and friendship.

Music and puppets

Musician Hugh Hanley brings music, instruments, and puppets to our Toddler and Preschool Divisions, and guest performers help us celebrate the seasons. Singing and moving to a beat support early language, memory, and listening skills, and they are simply a lot of fun.

Outside with TimberNook

Twice a month, our preschoolers head out with TimberNook staff for theme-based, imagination-led play on our playground. Children crawl through tunnels, build in the sand, and negotiate materials with their classmates, while the adults step back so they can take healthy, age-appropriate risks. Time outside helps children regulate their emotions and come back to the classroom ready to focus.

Cooking, art, and messy hands

Some of the best learning happens at the table. Children measure and mix to make their own playdough, explore shaving cream and gel paint at the sensory table, and paint with brushes, hands, and anything else that makes an interesting mark. These activities build fine-motor strength for writing later on, and they teach early math and science ideas like more and less, mixing, and cause and effect.

Stories, science, and caring for others

Storytelling, puppetry, and hands-on science spark curiosity across our classrooms. We also teach children to care for their community. Each November, families donate food to Open Table, a food pantry in Maynard, and the children decorate the collection boxes themselves during our Thanksgiving Giveback. And of course there is the Halloween Parade, one of the most loved days of the year.

Try a little yoga at home

You do not need a mat or a class to bring some of this home. Before bed or on a rainy afternoon, try a few simple, playful stretches together: reach up tall like a tree, curl up small like a seed, or flap your arms like a bird. Add slow breathing, such as smelling a flower and blowing out a candle. Keep it short, follow your child's lead, and make it silly when they need it to be. A few calm minutes together can make transitions like bedtime a little easier, and your child may be excited to show you the poses they learned at school.

Why variety matters

Every child learns a little differently. Some light up on the yoga mat, some at the art table, and some only once they are outside with their hands in the sand. A full week of different activities gives every child a chance to shine, try something new, and grow across cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills. You can read more about our approach on our Enrichment and Preschool and Pre-K pages.

The best way to understand it is to see it. Tours are offered Mondays to Wednesdays, 9:30am to 3:00pm, and we would love to show you around.
